The duration varies based on the couple’s needs. Some couples see progress in a few sessions over weeks, while others benefit from longer-term support to keep the relationship on track.
We recommend weekly to fortnightly sessions to begin with so that you can start to see and feel change. However it is based on each couples’ needs and would be recommended by the therapist in your first session.
While it’s ideal for both partners to attend, some sessions may involve one partner alone to address individual concerns affecting the relationship. Our couples’ treatment plans involve an initial couples’ session, 2x individual sessions and follow up couples sessions ongoing.
This is common. We recommend having an open conversation about the potential benefits, or attending an initial session alone to explore options.
As you complete couples therapy, we’ll reflect on your progress and discuss how to maintain the positive changes you’ve made. Some couples choose to schedule quarterly check-ins, while others feel confident moving forward on their own. Our goal is to equip you with the tools and insights to navigate your relationship successfully long after therapy ends.
No, you can book a session directly at any time.
Unfortunately the Mental Health Care Plan does not cover couples’ therapy, however, most private health insurances do. It would be worth checking with your private health company to ensure that your level of cover includes couples therapy.
